Duncan Grieve is a litigation associate based in the London office of Morrison & Foerster, with a particular focus on investigations, compliance and white collar crime.
Mr. Grieve advises a range of organisations, including multinationals, both on internal corporate investigations and during investigation or prosecution by regulatory bodies including the Serious Fraud Office (SFO), the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), the US Department of Justice (DoJ) and the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Mr. Grieve has deep experience in dealing with international investigations involving issues in foreign jurisdictions including Brazil, Russia, China, India, Romania, the Czech Republic and Mozambique.
Mr. Grieve represents individuals subject to internal, regulatory and criminal investigation. Previous work includes advising clients throughout the global investigations into the integrity of financial benchmarks including LIBOR, EURIBOR and FX. He has acted for clients in relation to Parliamentary Select Committee appearances and has also worked closely with other professionals to deal with the reputational and PR issues that accompany such investigations.
Mr. Grieve has extensive experience in anti-corruption compliance work in an M&A context. During a nine month secondment to a multinational client, Mr. Grieve led the global compliance integration of newly acquired company which was purchased for US$5.1 billion. He also conducts pre-acquisition anti-corruption due diligence in relation to investments into foreign jurisdictions and advises clients on compliance with trade sanctions and economic embargoes. He regularly delivers training on bribery, corruption and effective compliance strategies.
Mr. Grieve also advises on commercial disputes including securities litigation and claims involving financial products. Recent work spans a range of sectors covering technology, financial services and non-profit organisations.
Mr. Grieve speaks Portuguese and has a strong professional interest in Brazil, particularly in the dispute resolution and anti-corruption sectors. He heads the Disputes Sub-Committee of Lex Anglo-Brasil and is an active participant in the Brazilian-British Lawyer Exchange Programme organised by the Law Society and the Brazilian Bar Association.
After obtaining a first in History in 2007 from the University of York, Mr. Grieve completed the Post Graduate Diploma in Law and the Legal Practice Course at BPP Manchester. Mr. Grieve is admitted to practice in England & Wales. He is a member of the Human Rights Committee of the ECBA and AIJA.
