Egbert de Groot is an associate in the Corporate Department of Morrison & Foerster’s New York office. His practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions, project finance, general corporate and transactional matters, and corporate finance.

Prior to his work at Morrison & Foerster, Mr. de Groot was the executive director of development and the director of sales for the Canadian division of one of the world’s top three utility-scale wind turbine original equipment manufacturers, as well as being a rooftop solar developer. His experience in these roles has included leading the negotiation of equipment supply, operation and maintenance, and engineering procurement and construction contracts for more than 20 projects representing approximately 1,500 MW of installed capacity. In addition, Mr. de Groot was involved in the acquisition of a 230 MW wind project, as well as a number of vendor financing transactions.

Mr. de Groot has represented Axium Infrastructure in the acquisition of the Slate Creek Wind Project, a 150MW operating wind farm located in Kansas, Starwood Energy Group in its acquisition of a 790-megawatt combined-cycle natural gas power plant and a 50MW simple cycle power plant located in Delaware and Pennsylvania from an affiliate of NextEra, UBS Infrastructure in its acquisition of a portfolio of 14 conventional energy power plants in the U.S. and the Caribbean, a leading New York based hedge fund in its acquisition and related tax equity and construction financing of a 52MW PV Power Plant in Mississippi, a U.S. private equity fund in its bid to acquire a hydro portfolio in the U.S., and a leading U.S. hedge fund in its bid to acquire a portfolio of commercial and industrial solar projects in the U.S.

In 2006, Mr. de Groot received his B.Eng. (Mechanical) from McGill University, where he also earned his B.C.L. and LL.B. degrees in 2015.
