Dr. Fernando Meza Gutierrez focuses his work on patent drafting; patent prosecution; due diligence; and freedom-to-operate analyses in the areas of biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, and agricultural biotechnology.
Prior to joining the firm, Fernando was a technology analyst at the Office of Technology Management (OTM) of the University of California, San Francisco. He evaluated the patentability and commercial potential of inventions and contributed to planning and implementation of intellectual property and licensing strategies.
Fernando received his Ph.D. in biochemistry and molecular biology from the University of California, San Francisco, where he discovered and characterized novel functions of polyubiquitin in cell cycle and nutrient regulation. He also acquired technical expertise in protein mass spectrometry, genome-wide epistasis analysis, whole-genome sequencing, and SNP analysis. Fernando earned his B.S. in biology from Santa Clara University.
