James Frei is a Patent Agent in the firm’s San Francisco office. His practice focuses on patent drafting and prosecution. His technical expertise includes mixed signal circuitry, electromagnetics, photonics, metallurgy, composites, nano-materials, solid state devices, and thin-film technologies. He is also familiar with computer architecture and numerous programming languages, including C, Python, Perl, Java, and Matlab.
Mr. Frei’s research at UC Davis included 2-D electromagnetic modeling of fin-FETs, as well as investigation of electron-assisted diffusion mechanisms in highly conductive metals. Mr. Frei was previously a signal integrity engineer at Oracle/Sun Microsystems and responsible for the simulation and characterization of the high-speed serial interconnects used in DDR and PCI-E that contributed to the success of the T-series and M-series SPARC processor platforms.
Mr. Frei holds an A.S. in mechanical engineering from Ricks College, a B.S. in electrical/materials science engineering, a M.S. in electrical engineering, and a M.S. in materials science and engineering from UC Davis. He is also certified with the State of California in Fundamentals of Engineering/Engineer-In-Training (FE/EIT).
Mr. Frei is fluent in Spanish.
