A Fellow of the American College of Labor and Employment Lawyers, Janie Schulman has specialized in employment, whistleblower retaliation, and trade secrets litigation and counseling for more than 30 years. Since 2012, she has been recognized as a leading attorney in employment and labor law by Best Lawyers in America. She has developed expertise in employment law issues unique to several industries, including financial services, technology, medical/life sciences, retail, and hospitality. Clients appreciate Janie’s practical solutions to their employment problems, which align with the clients’ business objectives and are legally compliant. She enjoys being in the trenches with her clients and has worn hard hats at constructions sites, learned the latest developments in cancer treatment, seen dog food being made, studied the “bottle to throttle” alcohol limits for pilots of Gulfstream jets, and learned to swear in Japanese.
Janie litigates and tries complex lawsuits alleging whistleblower retaliation under the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, misappropriation of trade secrets, employee and customer raiding, unfair competition, and breach of restrictive covenants. She has successfully defended employers in disputes alleging wage-and-hour violations, wrongful discharge, sexual harassment, employee privacy, and employment discrimination. Although serious about her work, Janie’s down-to-earth demeanor and sense of humor put clients at ease in these challenging situations. Drawing on her extensive counseling and litigation experience, Janie can evaluate and meaningfully communicate litigation risks and alternatives to her clients and works closely with them to develop strategies that will achieve their desired objectives.
