Jon Ornolfsson is a partner who advises market-leading multinational and Asia-based clients on energy and infrastructure projects around the world. Prior to relocating to Tokyo, Jon practiced in London, Milan, Dubai, and Singapore. 

Jon’s practice includes M&A and joint ventures, project development, and project financing within the oil and gas, power (conventional and renewables), chemicals, and other energy-related infrastructure sectors. Jon has recently counseled clients on various novel sustainable energy initiatives, such as pioneering clean fuel value chain projects.

Based in Asia since 2007, Jon has advised on many of the highest profile energy transactions across the Asia-Pacific region in recent years. His broad client base includes leading Japanese trading houses and energy companies and other global project developers and sponsors, as well as a number of Asian host government entities. Jon has been recognized by IFLR1000 and The Legal 500 Asia Pacific as a highly regarded practitioner for project development in Singapore and a leading lawyer for oil and gas and M&A, respectively.

Jon is an active member of various energy industry organizations, including serving on the steering committee of the AIPN (Association of International Petroleum Negotiators) Asia chapter. He is also a regular moderator and speaker at leading industry conferences and thought-leadership events.

  • A state-owned Chinese entity on its USD2.3 billion acquisition of a portfolio of power assets located in Malaysia, UAE, Egypt, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.
  • A Japanese utility on its investment in hydropower projects in Indonesia and related joint venture arrangements.
  • A Canadian listed company on its divestment of an operated interest in the Elk and Antelope gas fields and the Papua LNG project in Papua New Guinea.
  • A leading Japanese conglomerate on the restructuring of its LNG liquefaction projects portfolio, primarily located in the Middle East and Africa.
