Jonathan Gowdy is a trusted advisor and effective litigator for clients in a broad range of industries. Mr. Gowdy has substantial experience providing strategic advice to clients involved in mergers & acquisitions, joint ventures, license agreements, and other commercial activities that raise complex antitrust issues. While working in Washington, D.C. and Brussels, he has successfully resolved numerous US, EU, and international antitrust agency investigations, and when necessary, effectively litigated on behalf of clients before US courts. Mr. Gowdy also regularly advises clients on implementing and maintaining compliance policies and programs.

Mr. Gowdy has secured antitrust clearances from US and international antitrust agencies for hundreds of transactions. He counsels clients on merger notification requirements and regularly represents parties subject to in-depth agency investigations and competition law issues relating to pricing practices, standard setting activities, distribution or marketing arrangements, and competitor collaborations.

Mr. Gowdy has developed a strong understanding of the business and regulatory issues facing clients across a range of industries, including agriculture, computing, communications, consumer product, Internet services, industrial, life sciences, semiconductor, software, storage products and manufacturing equipment; and telecommunications equipment and services. Based on his prior in-house counsel experience at a venture firm managing an investment fund and providing consulting services to early-stage technology companies, Mr. Gowdy understands the value clients place on receiving practical, timely, and cost-efficient advice.

Mr. Gowdy is recommended by Legal 500 U.S. in the area of Antitrust: Merger Control and currently serves on the International Committee of the Antitrust Section of the American Bar Association. During law school, Mr. Gowdy worked at the Antitrust Division at the U.S. Department of Justice. He also served as Managing Editor of the Florida Law Review, and was elected to the Order of the Coif. Mr. Gowdy attended Duke University and received an athletic scholarship to play on the men’s soccer team. He is a volunteer member of the US Soccer Foundation's DC Leadership Council and an Age Group Commissioner for the Arlington Soccer Association.

Represented Intel in obtaining international antitrust approvals for its acquisition of Lantiq, a leading supplier of broadband access and home networking technologies.


Fujitsu/Panasonic/Development Bank of Japan
Represented parties in obtaining antitrust approvals for the establishment of Socionext Inc., a joint venture company that integrated Fujitsu’s and Panasonic’s system LSI semiconductor businesses.

 Represented Hitachi, Ltd. in its $2 billion acquisition of IBM's hard disk drive business, and in the formation of HGST, one of the world's three largest HDD manufacturers.


Del Monte's Acquisition of Milk Bone.
Advised Del Monte Foods in connection with its $580-million acquisition of Kraft's Milk-Bone dog snack business.
