Jovanna is engaged in a broad-based litigation practice, representing clients in high-stakes commercial disputes, consumer class actions, and privacy and data security matters. In particular, she has experience defending clients in lawsuits involving California’s Unfair Competition Law, the California Consumer Privacy Act, and other consumer protection and privacy-related claims.
Before joining Morrison & Foerster’s Litigation Department, Jovanna was a legal extern in the Affirmative Litigation Division of the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office, where she worked on various cases involving California’s Unfair Competition Law. Jovanna also served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Josephine L. Staton of the United States District Court in the Central District of California and was a summer associate at MoFo.
Jovanna received her J.D. from University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) School of Law. At UCLA she was a teaching assistant for the university’s legal research and writing class and a Masin Family Academic Excellence Gold Award winner for her legal research and writing. She was also an academy scholar in the UCLA Law Fellows Program and a managing editor for the UCLA Women’s Law Journal.
Before attending law school, Jovanna was a law clerk in the Major Crimes Division of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office and a Court Appointed Special Advocate for Children for CASA of Ventura County. As a Court Appointed Special Advocate with CASA, she supported children in the dependency court system through all court proceedings and placements and represented their best interests through written court reports.
