“ Employment is an evolving area of the law. Every day, you’ll see a new decision that addresses this very organic area, and it’s just great to be a part of it.
Karen leverages her vast jury and bench trial experience to defend employers in class actions and other complex employment litigation matters, such as wage–and–hour violations, discrimination, harassment, wrongful discharge, and trade–secret theft. Her client list spans a variety of industry sectors, including consumer products, entertainment, financial services, life sciences, publishing, hospitality, retail, technology, transportation, and venture capital.
One of Karen’s proudest accomplishments was leading the team that notched a win for the Brinker Restaurant Corporation in a case that settled the question of whether California employers are simply obliged to offer breaks to employees or to ensure the breaks are taken — a result that earned her Law360’s “Employment MVP” recognition. She has also been praised by Chambers USA for “being knowledgeable, experienced, and always having an opinion as opposed to doing cookie–cutter law.”
In addition to her practice, Karen is a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and a member of the American Bar Association, San Francisco Bar Association, and State Bar of California’s section on labor and employment law. She serves on the board of directors of the San Francisco Opera and the board of trustees at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and is also the former president of the San Francisco Opera Guild.Show More
