Dr. Karina Falbo focuses on patent prosecution, as well as due diligence and freedom to operate analyses, with an emphasis on life sciences, cancer molecular biology, biotechnology, and immunology. 

Prior to joining Morrison & Foerster, Dr. Falbo was an IP technical specialist at a U.S. law firm where she assisted with patent drafting and prosecution in areas such as therapeutic antibodies, therapeutic oligonucleotides, cancer diagnosis and therapy, virology, and neurobiology. She also worked as a freelance medical, scientific, and patent translator and interpreter for several nonprofit organizations and law firms.

She received her Ph.D. in cancer molecular biology from the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, where she discovered a new role for the INO80 chromatin remodeling complex in DNA damage tolerance pathways. For her research accomplishments, she received funding from the MD Anderson Cancer Center’s Virginia Harris Cockrell Endowment Fund and was awarded the Rosalie B. Hite Fellowship. She was also awarded the Keystone Symposia Student Scholarship and the University of Texas student travel award to speak at prestigious conferences such as Keystone Symposia and the Gordon Research Conferences. She authored several scientific articles published in leading journals such as Nature Structural & Molecular Biology, Molecular Carcinogenesis, and Molecular Cell.

Before moving to the United States, Dr. Falbo received her B.A. in molecular biology from the University of Buenos Aires. She also received training in biotechnology, cancer biology, and chemistry at several Argentine institutions, including the Angel H. Roffo Institute of Oncology, the Biotechnology Institute at the University of General San Martin, and the Environmental Chemistry Lab LAQUIGE of the Argentine National Scientific and Technical Research Council.

Dr. Falbo is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. 

Dr. Falbo is fluent in Spanish.
