Karl Johnston is an associate in the Litigation Department of Morrison & Foerster’s San Francisco office.

Karl focuses on intellectual property litigation and has experience in federal courts and the International Trade Commission. Prior to joining MoFo’s Litigation Department, Karl served as a judicial extern to Judge William Alsup of the U.S. District Court, Northern District of California.

Karl received his J.D. magna cum laude from the University of California, Hastings College of Law and was a member of the Thurston Honor Society. During law school, he served as a senior production editor for the Hastings Law Journal. Karl was also active in UC Hastings’ Moot Court Competition teams and was recognized as the overall champion of the David E. Snodgrass Moot Court Competition and national champion of the Burton D. Wechsler First Amendment Competition. Karl spent a summer participating in the International IP Transactions Program at the Bucerius Law School in Hamburg, Germany.

Karl received his B.A. in music from McGill University in Montreal, Canada.
