Kate Sum, Of Counsel in the firm’s Palo Alto office, advises on all aspects of the formation, structuring and operation of U.S. and international private investment funds.
Kate has experience advising on regulatory matters related to the Investment Company Act of 1940, the Investment Advisers Act of 1940 and the Securities Act of 1933 as well as regulatory changes under the Dodd-Frank Act and the JOBS Act.
Kate’s practice focuses on the representation of fund sponsors and managers in the formation and structuring of private equity funds, including upper–tier planning, as well as on related securities laws and regulatory matters. She also advises domestic and international investors on the purchase of interests in private funds.
Prior to joining Morrison & Foerster, Kate advised on investment funds at another international law firm. She received her J.D. from the University of Toronto and her B.Comm. (with Great Distinction) from McGill University.Show More
