Katherine Mackenzie is a patent agent in the firm’s Palo Alto office. Ms. Mackenzie received her Ph.D. in chemistry, with a concentration on chemical biology, from the University of California, Berkeley and a B.S. in both chemistry and biological sciences magna cum laude from the University of California, Irvine.

As a graduate student researcher at the University of California, Berkeley, Ms. Mackenzie focused on the design, synthesis, and characterization of a thermoresponsive protein-polymer material with site-specific biomolecule attachment and adjustable LCST for use in recyclable, solution-based protein applications and investigated the effect of additives on cellulase enzyme activity for use in biofuels production. This work is the basis for a pending U.S. patent. She also studied the role of sodium concentration in bacterial virulence of Mycobacterium tuberculosis; developed N-terminal proline reactions for protein bioconjugation; and synthesized a fluorescent probe framework for live cell imaging of hydrogen peroxide, respectively.

Ms. Mackenzie was a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow and a Berkeley Chemical Biology Program Fellow.

Ms. Mackenzie is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
