Luis Gabriel Hoyos is an associate in the Litigation Department where his practice focuses on trademark, defense of consumer class actions, and complex commercial litigation.

Mr. Hoyos is also very active in the firm’s pro bono practice. He is the current chair of the San Francisco Latino/a Lawyers Affinity Group at the firm.

Mr. Hoyos is a graduate of Columbia Law School, where he was a James Kent Scholar, a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar, managing editor of the Columbia Human Rights Law Review, and President of the Columbia Latino/a Law Students Association. He earned a B. Soc. Sci., first in his class, from the University of Cape Town, and a B.A., with highest honors, from Vassar College. He is fluent in French and has native proficiency in Spanish.

During law school, Mr. Hoyos served as a legal extern for the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) LGBT Rights Project. He was a teaching fellow for Professors Robert Scott, Bernard Harcourt, and Alexandra Carter. At graduation, Mr. Hoyos received the Outstanding Student Award from the Clinical Legal Education Association (CLEA) for his work with the Immigrants’ Rights Clinic and the Mediation Clinic. Mr. Hoyos also participated in the LaLSA Moot Court Competition, where he received the award for the best appellate brief, and in the Williams Institute National Moot Court Competition at UCLA Law School.

Prior to attending law school, Mr. Hoyos completed a Maguire Fellowship in South Africa and worked as a paralegal at a large law firm.

Mr. Hoyos is admitted to practice law in California. He has accepted clerkships with the Honorable Judge George B. Daniels in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York for the 2018-19 term, the Honorable Judge Mary H. Murguia in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit for the 2019-20 term, and the Honorable Judge Edward M. Chen in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California for the 2020-21 term.
