Marijn Storm focuses his practice at the intersection of data protection, information technology, and intellectual property law. Resident in Morrison & Foerster’s Brussels office, he has advised leading EU-headquartered companies and semi-governmental organizations on a range of their most pressing privacy and data security challenges, as well as the drafting and negotiating of IT contracts such as development and licensing agreements.

Compliance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) has been a pillar of Marijn’s practice as the May 2018 effective date approaches, and he has assisted both controllers and processors with their GDPR implementation efforts.

Marijn has also provided extensive advice to clients on the implementation of data breach notification requirements, and in the context of security breaches, has assisted with notification to both regulatory authorities and data subjects. He has advised clients, including an eHealth application, on compliance with global privacy regulations, including the development of new products based on principles of privacy-by-design.

A thought leader, Marijn keeps clients informed of important developments by regularly authoring Privacy + Data Security client alerts and Global Privacy Alliance alerts, and presenting at seminars on topics ranging from GDPR compliance and breach notification to cloud computing and 3-D printing.

Prior to joining Morrison & Foerster, Marijn was an associate in the IT, IP, and Privacy practice of a leading Dutch firm, during which time he was also seconded to a semi-governmental organization to assist with breach notification implementation. Marijn graduated from the Vrije Universiteit of Amsterdam with a specialized Master’s degree in Internet, Intellectual Property and ICT law, as well as a Master’s in Civil Law. He is fluent in Dutch and English.
