Matt Malone is an associate in the Employment + Labor Group with a focus on employment and labor litigation and counseling.

Prior to joining the firm, Matt was a summer associate in Morrison & Foerster’s Palo Alto office and a researcher on trade secret law at the Centre for International Governance Innovation in Waterloo.

Matt earned common and civil law degrees from McGill University in Montreal. While there, he worked in the legal department of Bombardier Aerospace on a trade-secrets dispute related to the certification of regional jets. Matt was also a teaching assistant to the dean, research assistant in the Center for Intellectual Property Policy, and editor-in-chief of the faculty newspaper, Quid Novi. Matt is winner of the national Strosberg Prize recognizing the best paper on class actions in Canada.

In addition to addressing employment and labor issues, Matt has a passion for questions related to fertility law. He maintains an active pro bono practice in the area. Also, in 2019, Matt was part of the MoFo team that won derivative asylum for the child of a LGBTQ+ client. Matt is also actively engaged with the firm’s diversity initiatives, including co-moderating a panel discussion during MoFo’s 2019 Pride Month. In recognition of his pro bono service, Matt received the California Lawyers Association’s Wiley W. Manuel Certificates for 2018–2019 and 2019-2020.
