Melina Stroungi is a Privacy & Data security associate based in the Brussels office of Morrison & Foerster.
Melina Stroungi is experienced in advising clients on all aspects of EU law, with a particular focus on privacy and data protection. Her practice involves assisting clients from various industries to resolve their privacy and data security challenges. Her expertise includes advising on cross-border data transfers, social media and smart cars; conducting trainings and GDPR compliance workshops with clients; drafting data privacy impact assessments; as well as reviewing and updating privacy policies for websites, data processing agreements and cookies notices.
Melina’s previous dual background in EU privacy and competition law gives her expert insight into the increasing interplay between data protection and competition in the digital economy. Prior to joining Morrison & Foerster, Melina worked in a law firm of one of the Big Four accounting firms, where she contributed to the development of their EU law practice and acted as legal counsel in high-profile litigation cases before the General Court of the European Union.
Melina previously worked at the European Commission in Brussels, as well as the Hellenic Data Protection Authority, where she assisted with the handling of individuals’ complaints and the monitoring of EU and privacy legislation. She has also lectured on EU law at IXAD Ecole des Avocats in Lille (Bar School for attorneys).
Melina has an LL.M. in Cyberlaw, Privacy and EU Competition law from the London School of Economics, where she conducted extensive research on the EU’s developing policy on the protection of children’s personal data. She is a moot court laureate, having won the first place in Europe and the second place worldwide in the International Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition, before judges of the International Court of Justice.
Melina is also a data protection practitioner certified by the European Centre on Privacy and Cybersecurity of Maastricht University.
Melina is a member of the Athens Bar. She is a native Greek speaker and fluent in English and French.
