Michael Swett is an associate in the firm’s Intellectual Property Group. Mr. Swett focuses his practice on patent prosecution, litigation support, post-grant proceedings, and IP due diligence. He has experience in a variety of technical fields, including speech processing, cloud computing, virtualization, computer networks, computer architecture, broadband video encoding, and semiconductor devices.
Mr. Swett has grown patent portfolios on behalf of clients ranging from start-ups to multinational corporations. He has handled various aspects of post-grant proceedings, and has performed validity, evidence-of-use, and freedom-to-operate investigations.
Mr. Swett has experience in matters before U.S. district courts and the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC). He has prepared infringement and invalidity contentions, collaborated with expert witnesses to prepare expert reports and witness statements, drafted claim construction briefs, and prepared presentations for technical tutorials and claim construction hearings.
Prior to his legal career, Mr. Swett worked at an engineering consulting firm, where he designed electrical power distributions, control systems, and human-machine interfaces. He received his J.D. cum laude from Seattle University School of Law, and his B.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Washington.
Mr. Swett is admitted to practice in both Washington and California, as well as before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
