Monica is an experienced and creative litigator and counselor who defends and advises clients across a variety of industries, including healthcare, retail, restaurant, higher education, hospitality, and transportation and logistics. Monica has significant experience representing clients in class and representative action lawsuits alleging wage-and-hour violations in state and federal court. Monica also has extensive experience representing employers in high-stakes single-plaintiff lawsuits alleging claims of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and wrongful termination. Monica has also advised clients on a myriad of employment issues, including disability and leave accommodations, discipline and terminations, pay equity audits, severance negotiations, mass furloughs and layoffs, and compliance with COVID-19 government guidance and orders.
In addition, Monica has defended and advised clients on labor relations issues. Her experience includes defending employers in unfair labor practice charges and union grievances, assisting in collective bargaining negotiations, and providing practical advice to clients on collective bargaining agreement interpretation issues, organizing campaigns, and strikes.
Prior to joining the firm, Monica was a senior associate at an international AmLaw 100 law firm. Additionally, Monica served as in-house counsel at a leading private research university, where she managed litigation and advised various lines of business, including higher education, healthcare, hospitality, retail, and safety and security.
Monica received her J.D. from Loyola Law School, where she served as editor of the International and Comparative Law Review. During law school, Monica worked as a judicial extern for the late Honorable Harry Pregerson and a judicial intern for the Honorable Michael L. Stern and the Honorable Teresa Sanchez-Gordon. Monica received her B.A. in literature and cultural studies from University of California, San Diego, where she was recognized with Provost Honors.
