Ronan Tigner’s practice focuses on technology matters, with a particular focus on privacy and data security and covers a broad range of both contentious and non-contentious work, ranging from regulatory dealings, litigation, and negotiations, to compliance and counselling.
Mr. Tigner assists clients in a wide array of data protection matters, such as preparing and handling regulatory investigations and negotiating agreements that involve the processing of personal data. He also works with clients on assessing and improving their compliance efforts, as well as their efforts to raise internal awareness about privacy and data security, including through audits, training, surveys, and drill exercises. In addition, Mr. Tigner drafts notices directed at both employees (e.g., bring your own device and social media policies) and consumers (e.g., privacy policies for websites, mobile apps, and wearables, as well as cookie notices). He also prepares global data sharing agreements to address companies’ internal and external transfers of personal data.
He has experience in many other areas of law related to privacy and data security, such as online marketing and advertising, consumer protection, intellectual property, data retention, telecommunications, outsourcing, IT, and e-commerce (e.g., e-signatures), and data protection issues in the healthcare sector (e.g., protecting patient data and obtaining consent).
He is always on the lookout for new and emerging technologies and trends (e.g., virtual reality, drones, and smart tech), anticipates their applications and legal ramifications, and provides clients with innovative advice in uncharted areas.
Mr. Tigner is a member of the Brussels bar. He is bilingual in French and English and has a working knowledge of Dutch. He is a contributor to various publications and speaker at data protection conferences.
