Dr. Sejin Ahn focuses her practice on patent prosecution and counseling in the areas of life sciences, biotechnology and pharmaceuticals. She has prior research experience in scientific disciplines including molecular biology, genetics, genomics, immunology and microbiology. She also has experience with patentability and patent landscape analyses.
Dr. Ahn has extensive experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications in the broad areas of life sciences, biotechnology and pharmaceuticals, including cell therapy, gene-based therapy, protein therapeutics, including biologics, antibodies, modified antibodies and enzyme therapeutics, medical devices, analytical, experimental and clinical methods and diagnostics.
Dr. Ahn earned her J.D., magna cum laude, Order of the Coif, from the University of San Diego. While in law school, she gained experience as a patent agent at Morrison & Foerster and at another global law firm. She received her Ph.D. in genetics from Harvard University, where her research focused on deciphering molecular mechanisms of glucose-dependent transcriptional regulation in fission yeast using genetics, genomics and molecular biology. Prior to graduate school, Dr. Ahn worked at the National Institutes of Health, studying T cell development in a mouse model system. She obtained her B.S. in biological sciences, summa cum laude, from Seoul National University in South Korea. Dr. Ahn also worked as a volunteer research scientist and instructor in the Galapagos Islands, Ecuador.
She is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, is a member of the California bar, and is fluent in Korean.
