Shouvik Biswas is an associate in the Patent Group of Morrison & Foerster’s Northern Virginia office.
Mr. Biswas’ practice is focused on patent preparation and prosecution in the United States and foreign jurisdictions, strategic IP counseling and portfolio management, and adversarial proceedings before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
Mr. Biswas has handled matters in all stages of prosecution, including invention disclosures, new application drafting, office action responses, and patent appeals. He has drafted and prosecuted patents in numerous technology markets, including consumer electronics, wireless technologies, database software, semiconductor devices, automotive devices, and memory technologies.
In addition to his prosecution experience, Mr. Biswas also has considerable experience in adversarial proceedings before the USPTO’s Patent Trial and Appeal Board, including Inter Partes Reviews and Covered Business Method Reviews as created by the America Invents Act. He has experience representing both the Petitioner and Patent Owner, and has represented clients at all stages of the proceedings, such as in drafting petitions, patent owner responses, discovery, and oral hearings before the PTAB.
Prior to his legal career, Mr. Biswas worked as a Satellite Communications System Engineer at Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems. As an engineer, Mr. Biswas has developed a breadth of experience in an array of technologies, including digital, RF, and optical signal processing, antenna architectures and design, and analog devices.
Mr. Biswas received his M.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Southern California Viterbi School of Engineering and his B.S. in electrical engineering from Purdue University. He received his J.D. from the University of Southern California Gould School of Law.
Mr. Biswas is registered to practice before the Patent and Trademark Office. He speaks fluent Bengali and conversational Spanish and Hindi.
