Raj Chatterjee is a trial lawyer with expertise in business litigation, criminal defense, and arbitration. He has represented clients in state and federal courts around the U.S. and in a variety of arbitral forums.

His cases have involved a wide spectrum of matters, including complex contractual issues, energy and natural resource issues, including air pollution, energy, and water litigation, unfair competition, securities laws, fraud, trade secrets, fiduciary obligations, defamation, and myriad state and federal criminal laws.  He also has extensive experience representing healthcare entities in contractual disputes and has advised clients with internal criminal investigations.

Mr. Chatterjee has held leadership roles in several bar associations and non-profit organizations.  He is currently a member of the Board of Directors for the California Bar Foundation. He is also a member of the San Francisco Bar Association, American Bar Association, South Asian Bar Association of Northern California, and Asian American Bar Association of the Greater Bay Area.  He formerly served on the Board of Directors for the Asian Law Caucus.

From 2005-2007, Mr. Chatterjee served as a commissioner on the State Bar of California Commission on Judicial Nominees Evaluation.  He is a former president of the South Asian Bar Association of Northern California and previously served on the Executive Committee of the California State Bar’s Litigation Section.

In January 2007, Mr. Chatterjee was selected by the Daily Journal as one of the “20 Lawyers to Watch Under 40” in California.  He has been repeatedly recognized by California SuperLawyers for his expertise in business litigation (2010-2015).

From 1999-2000, Mr. Chatterjee worked as a public defender in Northern California.

During law school at the University of California, Hastings, Mr. Chatterjee was elected to the Order of the Coif and the Thurston Society and was an executive articles editor for the Hastings International and Comparative Law Review.

Represented the largest water district in the world in historic rate dispute and related matters affecting Southern California water rates, and obtained favorable summary adjudication on key claims.

Obtained dismissal in the district court of all claims against public technology company developing appendicitis-related medical devices in multiple securities actions.
Versata Group
Successfully represented international software company in bankruptcy trial and related international litigation arising out of a series of licensing agreements and acquisitions.
PepperBall Technologies
Successfully defended technology company and the former chairman of its board charged with civil securities fraud and related claims in a six-week jury trial in Los Angeles Superior Court. Achieved a complete defense verdict with the jury out for three hours.
Youa True Vang
Obtained after three years of litigation dismissal of all charges against a former colonel in the Hmong army charged with conspiracy to overthrow the government of Laos.

Successfully represented leading direct selling company in litigation around the country in multiple matters involving trade secrets and business disputes against competitors.

Obtained dismissal of all charges against Patricia Dunn, former chairperson of the Hewlett-Packard board, in matters arising out Hewlett-Packard board investigations, and successfully represented Ms. Dunn in related civil matters and Congressional investigations.

Successfully defended owner of multiple cogeneration facilities and saw mills in California’s then largest civil penalties action under California’s air pollution laws, obtaining favorable settlement two days before trial.
