Sonia Girgis is of counsel in the London office of Morrison & Foerster. She provides corporate and international tax advice on a wide range of issues to public and private companies, international banks, venture capital houses, and high-net-worth individuals.
Ms. Girgis has advised on cross-border and domestic U.K. corporate and banking taxation matters, including mergers and acquisitions and private equity transactions, corporate reorganisations and structuring, international joint ventures, and cross border financing and investment transactions. Her transactional experience involves companies across a broad range of industries, including finance, technology, life sciences, pharmaceutical, industrial, and consumer products.
Ms. Girgis advises companies in connection with employee equity participation issues, including advising on HM Revenue & Customs tax advantaged share option schemes, unapproved option schemes, long term incentive plans, and direct issue of shares to employees and directors.
Ms. Girgis has also advised in connection with tax audits and litigation.
Ms. Girgis was the winner of the “Rising Star: Tax” award at the Euromoney European Women in Business Law Awards 2015 for the second year running.
Ms. Girgis joined Morrison & Foerster in 2007. Prior to this time, she worked in the London office of Simmons & Simmons and the Sydney offices of PricewaterhouseCoopers Legal and PricewaterhouseCoopers. She graduated in 2002 from the University of Technology, Sydney, with both LL.B with first class honours and B.Bus (Mgt), and in the same year received her Graduate Certificate in Legal Practice. She qualified in 2003 and is admitted to practice in England & Wales.
