Thomas Kannan is an associate based in the London office of Morrison & Foerster and is a member of the Corporate Group.

Thomas advises clients on a wide range of corporate matters, including public and private mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, private equity, corporate restructurings and reorganisations, and general corporate advisory matters. He has experience advising Australian domestic and multinational clients on large complex cross-border and Australian domestic transactions across various industries and sectors including healthcare, energy, agriculture and financial services.

Thomas was awarded his LLB Bachelor of Laws / Bachelor of Arts (Journalism) from the University of Notre Dame Australia in 2017. He then completed his Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice at the College of Law in 2018.

Before joining Morrison & Foerster, Thomas trained and practiced at the Sydney office of a leading Australian corporate law firm where he was exposed to a number of high-profile transactions.

Thomas is qualified as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of New South Wales and he is admitted to practice law in New South Wales, Australia.

  • Advising a private equity firm on the sale of its equity stake in an Australian owner and operator of general practitioner and primary care clinics to an ASX listed private health insurer.
  • Advising a leading provider of pathology services in Australia on its successful AUD$408.6 million initial public offering.
  • Advising an Australia-wide network of dental practices on its proposed IPO and subsequent corporate restructuring.
  • Advising Australia’s largest ASX-listed renewable energy generator on a hostile takeover bid and a “friendly” takeover bid which valued the business at ~AUD$1.3 billion.
  • Advising a leading Australian agribusiness and processing company on the ~AUD$2 billion demerger of the worlds fourth-largest independent commercial maltster by way of a scheme of arrangement and ASX-listing.
  • Advising a global virtual healthcare provider on its acquisition of an online mental health training business.
  • Advising a global travel insurance and medical assistance provider on an asset sale to one of the world’s largest global insurers.
