VaNae Hamilton focuses her work on patent prosecution and counseling in the areas of pharmaceuticals and biotechnology. She has experience in IP due diligence inquiries, including freedom-to-operate and patentability analyses, as well as providing litigation support.
Prior to joining the firm, Dr. Hamilton worked as a technology specialist for a global law firm, where her role included drafting patent applications for biologic and biomaterial technologies.
Dr. Hamilton earned her M.S. in patent law from the University of Notre Dame. While working with its technology transfer office, she drafted patent applications for biochemical and diagnostic technologies, generated patentability search reports, and conducted inventor interviews.
Dr. Hamilton received her Ph.D. in biomedical sciences, microbiology, and immunology, from Meharry Medical College, where she was a National Research Service Award (NRSA) fellow. She generated transgenic microorganisms, studied protein trafficking in microorganisms using an in vitro import assay, published peer-reviewed manuscripts, and presented data at international meetings. Dr. Hamilton received her B.S. in biology from Hampton University.
