Wei Zhang is a corporate associate in Morrison & Foerster’s Beijing office. She advises clients on a variety of regulatory and compliance issues involving mergers and acquisitions, direct investments and business operations, and extends her knowledge and experience on different types of data privacy and data security issues across a broad range of industry sectors.

She helps clients develop their business structures under PRC licensing requirements and regulatory restrictions, as well as build up data protection standards and policies in relation to the collection, use, sharing and safeguarding of data. She provides detailed analyses to fundamental laws such as the PRC Cyber Security Law, and advises on industy-specific data protection rules for sectors including TMT and healthcare.

Prior to joining Morrison & Foerster, Ms. Zhang was an associate in the Beijing office of a major U.S. law firm.

Ms. Zhang speaks fluent Mandarin and English.

Selected examples of Ms. Zhang’s experience include the following:

  • Advised a global cloud technology company on its strategic joint venture in China for development of localized cloud computing solutions;
  • Advised a multinational telecommunications conglomerate on business models and strategies in China under PRC telecommunication licensing requirements;
  • Advised a international logistics company on their data storage and data transfer strategies for customer data, employee data, and mapping data;
  • Advised a global management consulting and professional services company on PRC privacy and compliance issues for their new marketing data analysis model;
  • Advised a leading Japanese optical manufacturer on operational privacy and data protection requirements in China for their eye screening and imaging equipments.
