Yan Qi is a patent agent in the firm’s Intellectual Property Group in the Palo Alto office. Her practice focuses on patent drafting and prosecution in the areas of biotechnology and pharmaceuticals.

Dr. Qi received her Ph.D. in biophysics from Harvard University, where she was a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow. Her doctoral research focused on the molecular structures and mechanisms of DNA repair. She received her B.S. with honors in chemistry and biology from the California Institute of Technology, where she studied molecular structures of virus-host interactions.  

Prior to joining Morrison & Foerster, Dr. Qi was an assistant professor of biology at Amherst College. She was also a Life Science Research Foundation postdoctoral fellow at Massachusetts General Hospital. She had extensive teaching experience in biochemistry and molecular biology. She had broad research experience in genetics, biochemistry, structural biology, drug discovery and next-generation sequencing.
