Dr. Yan Qi is committed to delivering targeted solutions to clients’ diverse intellectual property needs in the life sciences. Her practice includes patent preparation and prosecution, freedom-to-operate, landscape and patentability analyses, intellectual property due diligence, and patent litigation support.
Her experience spans the areas of antibody design, gene editing, cell-based therapy, RNA therapeutics, next-generation sequencing, and medical devices. She has served a variety of clients, including independent inventors, startup biotechnology companies, global pharmaceutical companies, academic institutions, and investors. She applies her bilingual language skills to assisting cross-border matters involving Chinese companies.
Dr. Qi brings solid scientific training and broad technical expertise to her clients’ matters. Prior to joining Morrison & Foerster, she was an assistant professor of biology at Amherst College. As a postdoctoral fellow at Massachusetts General Hospital, she conducted genome-wide RNAi screens and developed a computational pipeline for next-generation sequencing analysis to discover genetic regulators of aging. Dr. Qi earned her Ph.D. in biophysics from Harvard University, where she studied the molecular structures and mechanisms of DNA repair. She received her B.S. with honors in chemistry and biology from the California Institute of Technology, where she researched in the area of host-virus interactions. She has taught many courses in biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, and drug discovery.
Dr. Qi is admitted to practice before the United States Patent & Trademark Office.
