More than twenty international and influential experts in the field of cyber security and information technology gathered in Haarlem, The Netherlands, on May 11th of 2016, to attend the first European Foresight Cybersecurity meeting. Within the EU, it is acknowledged that there is a need for forward-looking, strategic advice on new technological developments and related cyber security issues. The European Foresight Cyber ​​Security Meeting—which has been organized for the first time—was synthesized to this end.

The meeting, an initiative of the Dutch Cyber Security Council, took place under the Dutch Presidency of the European Union. Experts from the public, private and academic sectors discussed themes such as the “Internet of Things” and the harmonization of duties of care within the EU, both major developments requiring attention from the EU. Recommendations, based upon the conclusions reached by this panel of experts, were drawn up for the European Commission.
