The 15th China Private Equity Summit (CPES), organized by the Hong Kong Venture Capital and Private Equity Association (HKVCA), was held on May 30, 2016. This one-day flagship event featured close to 50 speakers and panelists, representing limited partners, investors, advisors and consultants, and attracted over 500 delegates.
Held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, distinguished guests at the event included: Professor K C Chan, Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Hong Kong SAR; Lei Zhang, Chairman & CEO, Hillhouse Capital; Fritz Demopoulos, CEO, Queen’s Road Capital; and Frank Tang, CEO & Managing Partner, FountainVest Partners.
The theme for 2016 highlighted a shift in the balance of power and relational dynamics among Chinese private equity practitioners, and the rise of domestic private equity players internationally, amid the changing roles of limited partners and general partners. Leading industry practitioners addressed such topics as changes in the China market; opportunities and challenges from financial market reform and liberation; and the increasing amount of outbound investment from China. There was also discussion of the opportunities emerging from SOE reforms and the outlook for the TMT sector.
Conrad Tsang, President of the HKVCA, said: “The China Private Equity Summit is one of the industry’s best attended gatherings in the region with many prominent guests and leading industry experts discussing the latest developments and trends facing private equity in China. This year has seen a dynamic shift in the China market, creating opportunities and challenges for market players. As one of the largest industry associations, we will continue to engage with our members to develop ideas and strategies to unlock value in these new opportunities and encourage more global and cross-border investment.”
