On October 24, 2016, Morrison & Foerster partner Obrea Poindexter will speak on a webinar entitled, “Mobile Payments are Here to Stay – Is Your Business Ready?”

The technological capability of smartphones and other portable handheld electronic devices that access the Internet has increased dramatically over the past few years. This technological evolution in functionality has not only led to the development of new ways for consumers to engage in traditional banking activities (e.g., depositing a check), but also has spawned a revolution in the payments industry by establishing new channels through which consumers can make payments and merchants can take payments. Given that no regulation or guidance has been issued that is specifically applicable to mobile payments or mobile wallets, regulators and companies must adapt regulations written with legacy payments in mind to new payments systems. This topic is intended to provide a working knowledge of the payment system and the various types of payments platforms. The topic will also provide fundamentals on tokenization. Importantly, it will also include a discussion of key legal considerations.
