Inside counsel has transitioned from technical advisers to strategic advisers and the focus on sustainability has contributed to this trend. In a growing number of companies, lawyers are starting to play strategic roles in advancing sustainability. In too many others, the “siloing” of the legal function from this key corporate strategy prevents companies from advancing corporate responsibility initiatives. This session will explore how companies can leverage the unique role that lawyers play to advance sustainability. We will discuss research we are conducting at Berkeley Law’s General Counsel Think Tank on Sustainability.

MoFo Partner Suz Mac Cormac will join a panel including Esteban Mezzano, General Counsel, Zone Americans and Head of Sustainability in Legal, Nestlé and  Amelia Miazad, Director of Business in Society Institute, Berkeley Law. The discussion will be moderated by Silvia Garrigo, Senior Research Fellow, Institute for Business in Society, Berkeley Law.
