On Thursday, May 31, 2018, 20 general counsel and heads of compliance from leading Japanese and multinational corporations attended an anti-corruption forum hosted by Morrison & Foerster and The Legal 500. Morrison & Foerster’s Charles “Chuck” Duross, Timothy Blakely, Daniel Levison, Chie Yakura, and Yuka Teraguchi led the roundtable discussion on current anti-corruption trends, emerging compliance risks, and mitigation strategies and innovations. Mr. Duross opened the event with an update on anti-corruption enforcement. Following Mr. Duross’ remarks, the attendees engaged in lively dialogue about topics such as the resourcing and staffing of compliance departments, vetting and monitoring third parties, hospitality and gift giving, and the role of technology in the compliance function.
