On August 23, 2018, Lokke Moerel delivered the opening keynote at the Global Legal Forum 2018 at The Hague's Peace Palace. The Forum is an annual gathering of academics, members of the judiciary, law practitioners, in-house counsel, and legal technologists with a shared goal of addressing issues that affect business, society, and the legal industry. This year's theme was Legal Technology | Blockchain | AI: Changing Dynamics in Law, and focused on the opportunities and challenges that technological advancements pose for the legal profession. This theme and Lokke's keynote on ethics in the age of AI-fall squarely at the intersection of her many areas of expertise.
This past year alone, Lokke delivered a TedX Amsterdam talk on how to remain human in the age of AI, wrote a blog post for Oxford's Business Law Blog on the accountability of controllers for automatic decision making, authored an opinion piece for the Dutch Financial Times on the impact of AI on human expertise, and authored an article and a chapter on the data protection aspects of blockchain, to be published by Cambridge University.
