Get in Front of Environmental Lawsuits: Setting Up an Effective Compliance Program To Avoid Traps

RILA Retail Law Conference

12 Oct 2018 10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

Hilton Austin
500 East 4th Street
Austin, Texas 78701

On Friday October 12, 2018 join Morrison & Foerster partner Michael Steel on the panel “Get in Front of Environmental Lawsuits: Setting Up an Effective Compliance Program To Avoid Traps” during the RILA Retail Law Conference in Austin, Texas.

As California regulates, so goes the Nation. The Golden State continues to mete out multi-million dollar judgments against retailers for hazardous waste violations while Proposition 65 and other regulatory enforcement flourishes.

This panel will start with an overview of the environmental regulations with the highest regulatory risk for retailers and then consider new technology and tools that can be used to minimize risk. For example, Blinq and Optoro developed technology to enhance compliance for new and returned/end-of-life inventory across a varied and constantly changing product mix. RILA’s CRC initiative has just launched the CRC Advisor, a tool that retailers can use to evaluate and improve their internal environmental compliance programs and benchmark with peers.

Speakers include:

  • Zoe Sharp, Deputy General Counsel, Optoro
  • Tiffin Shewmake, Executive Director, Center for Retail Compliance, RILA
  • Michael Steel, Partner, Morrison & Foerster
