Smith, co-head of Morrison & Foerster’s National Security, Sanctions and Export Controls practice and former Director of the U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (“OFAC”) will be participating in a panel at the 15th annual ACAMS conference in Berlin, Germany on June 12, 2019.

The panel will be examining the differences between US and EU sanctions on Iran to zero in on potential non-compliance risks, reviewing recent penalties imposed by OFAC on European financial institutions for failure to comply with US sanctions to avoid future missteps, evaluating the EU’s efforts to immunize European companies from non-compliance with US sanctions on Iran, and discussing implementing best practices for wire transactions to meet international sanctions standards.
