The finalization of the PRIIPs regulation earlier in 2014 is a major milestone in achieving a greater harmonization of the regulation of structured products in the EU, particularly in relation to pre-sale disclosure. The recently adopted MiFID II legislation also introduces important changes relating to transparency of certain structured products, product intervention powers being granted to supervisors and the exchange trading of derivatives.

The market is also still working through the effect of previous developments including recent changes to the Prospectus Directive and preparing itself for future changes to the Prospectus Directive. There is also a continuing debate within EU member states and amongst other international regulators as to the best approach for regulation of ‘complex’ products and the circumstances, if any, in which they should be sold to retail investors.

This teleconference will give a comprehensive overview by Partners Peter Green and Jeremy Jennings-Mares on these issues and more, while also touching on likely future developments.
