Listen to Presentation

In July 2015, the Federal Reserve Board approved a final rule establishing the criteria for identifying a Global Systemically Important Bank (or GSIB).  The rule also identifies methods that GSIBs will use to calculate a risk-based capital surcharge.  During this session, Partner Oliver Ireland will discuss:

  • Who is subject to the rule;
  • The calculation of the capital surcharge and how the U.S. version differs from Basel III requirements;
  • The impact of reliance on short-term wholesale funding on the surcharge;
  • What the estimated surcharges will be;
  • How the surcharge fits into the overall regulatory capital requirements; and
  • How the surcharge and its calculation will likely impact capital-raising.
