Several years have now passed since the financial crisis and the onslaught of regulations intended to prevent a future crisis. Those reforms have resulted in significant changes to the financial services sector globally and also brought with them an alphabet soup of acronyms and terms with which we all have had to become familiar. The new administration in the US combined with other recent international events are likely to herald a further upheaval in the global regulatory landscape. This presentation will highlight some of the ongoing issues most relevant to banks and other financial institutions in the US. Topics will include:

  • Basel III capital and liquidity requirements;
  • Too big to fail GSIB requirements and the resolution process;
  • Systemically important banks (≥ $50 B) and heightened supervisory requirements;
  • The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau; and
  • The effect of Brexit on global financial regulation.
