On October 5, 2017, Governor Jerry Brown of California signed into law the Immigrant Worker Protection Act (AB 450), a new statute that imposes various prohibitions and requirements on California employers with regard to federal immigration enforcement actions in the workplace. The statute dictates that violations of AB 450 may result in thousands of dollars in penalties for an employer. Currently, the federal government is challenging the statute on preemption grounds.
