MoFo New York Tax Insights

Volume 9, Issue 10

10 Oct 2018

Welcome to the latest issue of New York Tax Insights. In this issue we cover:

  • A New York County Supreme Court decision denying dismissal of an action seeking relief for alleged inequalities in the New York City property tax system. The court found that the plaintiff organization had sufficient standing to pursue its argument that the NYC property tax system treated similar properties differently and resulted in discriminatory assessments (on page 1).
  • A federal district court dismissal of a putative class action against Costco. The opinion makes clear that the sole remedy for contesting allegedly erroneously charged sales tax is to file a refund claim with the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance (on page 3).
  • New York City Department of Finance guidance for reporting federal deemed repatriation income under the Federal Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 (on page 4).
  • And more (on page 5).
