Law360 has named San Francisco partner Rob Townsend to its list of 2016 M&A MVPs for his work on two record technology deals; advising VMware on the $67 billion acquisition of its parent company, EMC Corp by Dell Inc. and counseling Broadcom’s co-founder in the company’s $37 billion sale to Avago Technologies.

Both deals are impressive, with Dell being the largest ever technology deal announced and Avago’s acquisition of Broadcom ranked as the second largest semiconductor tie-up.

Rob’s work advising Polycom on its $1.6 billion merger with Mitel Networks Corp and his role in McKesson’s $1.2 billion acquisitions of Vantage Oncology and Biologics Inc. were also acknowledged.

“I love the fact that no two M&A are the same and each has its own unique complexities and challenges, including understanding the motivations and aspirations of the parties and finding a structure that achieves their goals, complies with applicable law and withstands scrutiny from regulators,” says Rob.

Law360’s MVP series acknowledges attorneys who have made a significant impact on their respective practice areas over the course of the past year.
