For the third year in a row, the National Law Journal (NLJ) has named MoFo to its annual Appellate Hot List, its assessment of the top appellate practices in the United States. The Hot List recognizes the law firms with "outstanding achievements before the U.S. Supreme Court, federal circuit courts and state courts of last resort."
MoFo was selected based on its significant victories in high stakes appeals. "Our strength lies in the diversity of work we do,” noted Joe Palmore, who co-chairs the group with Deanne Maynard. "We're able to come in and offer a fresh, objective look at the record … and re-position the case in the best possible light for appeal," Maynard said.
In addition to its high profile work in the U.S. Supreme Court, the group’s highlights over the past year include: a win on behalf of Immersion Corporation in the Federal Circuit that, according to Law360, “saved from the fire tens of thousands of patents that would have gone up in smoke”; a win on behalf of LexisNexis in the Fourth Circuit (with review denied by the Supreme Court) in the largest settlement class ever certified; and a win on behalf of Uber Technologies in the Second Circuit regarding Uber’s use of prerecorded messages in political telephone calls.
