Robotic process automation (RPA) is set to take over tedious office tasks and provide significant cost-cutting for companies. However, according to Morrison & Foerster’s London Managing Partner Alistair Maughan in the Raconteur Media article “Workplace success through robotic process automation,” the legal issues that come with the technology have yet to be fully addressed.
“The law is not keeping up with what technology can do,” he said in the article. “If a company uses RPA to replace, say, insurance claim processors then the insurance company needs fully to understand every step of the claim process and accurately describe them to the vendor – robots only do exactly what they’re told. If there’s a problem with the claim processing, liability is complicated. Does it lie with the customer or the vendor? Who is responsible?”
