UK Information Commissioner Wants Quicker Processing of Data Protection Requests

Annabel Gillham explains the impact that the enforcement notice issued by the U.K. Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) against the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) will have for individuals seeking data protection information about themselves in the Legaltech News article “UK Information Commissioner Wants Quicker Processing of Data Protection Requests.”

According to Ms. Gillham, the enforcement notice gives the ICO “significant oversight over the remedial steps to be taken, [and] the MOJ will need to submit monthly progress reports to the ICO at the beginning of each month.” These will document how the terms of the enforcement notice are getting implemented.

She continued: “The ICO will not hesitate to take enforcement action against organizations failing to comply with access requests. The ICO proactively monitors how long public authorities take to respond to freedom of information requests from the public about their activities.”
