Morrison & Foerster Recognized for Work on Prominent M&A Deals at Asia Legal Awards

On March 22nd, 2018, The Asian Lawyer recognized Morrison & Foerster with two Asia Legal Awards at an awards ceremony in Hong Kong. MoFo won in the “M&A Deal of the Year for North Asia” category for its work advising Toshiba Corporation in the $18 billion sale of its wholly-owned subsidiary Toshiba Memory Corporation. The firm also won in the “M&A Deal of the Year for Southeast Asia” category for its work advising Global Logistic Properties Ltd (now GLP Pte. Ltd.) on its $11.64 billion privatization.

MoFo’s work for Toshiba in what was the largest private equity deal ever in Asia was led by Tokyo managing partner Ken Siegel and included Tokyo corporate partner Ivan Smallwood, Tokyo litigation partner and co-chair of the firm’s Commercial Litigation and Trial Practice Group Louise Stoupe, and Tokyo Technology Transactions partner Stuart Beraha.

The MoFo team that advised GLP on its privatization was led by the firm’s Asia Managing Partner Eric Piesner, Singapore corporate partner Shirin Tang, San Francisco corporate partner and co-chair of the Firm’s Private Equity Fund Group and Private Equity Buyout Group Ken Muller, and corporate partner and co-head of the firm’s Asia Private Equity practice Marcia Ellis.

This recognition from The Asian Lawyer highlights MoFo’s success in expanding its M&A and Private Equity practices in Asia over recent years. The firm now has more than 90 corporate lawyers across Beijing, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore, and Tokyo.

The Asia Legal Awards celebrate achievement, excellence and innovation in the legal profession and are hosted by The Asian Lawyer, The American Lawyer, China Law & Practice, and LegalWeek. Winners are evaluated on the basis of the complexity and sophistication of their work on the most important transactions and cases in Asia.
