A Look at How the Recording Academy's Task-Force Assembly Stacks Up

26 Mar 2018

Morrison & Foerster partner Carrie H. Cohen believes the Recording Academy’s decision to appoint Tina Tchen as the chair of its new independent task force aimed at addressing barriers facing females and underrepresented minority groups in the music industry is the right one, despite the criticism that the academy choosing the members represents a conflict of interest.

“You need to look at the appointee's background and credibility,” she said in the Billboard article “A Look at How the Recording Academy's Task-Force Assembly Stacks Up.” “It doesn’t trouble me that the Academy and industry members themselves are making the appointments for their own task force, and I would want someone at the helm like Tina who has the right experience and reputation. She’s such a well-respected attorney, and lends a lot of credibility to the task force itself as well.”
