Morrison & Foerster chair Larren Nashelsky has joined the leaders of 33 other major American law firms in asking the U.S. government to develop an immediate plan to reunite children separated from their parents after crossing the U.S. border. More than 2,000 children, including infants and toddlers, are currently being held in an estimated 100 shelters around the country. Mr. Nashelsky and his counterparts are also requesting that the government implement a plan to release families who pose no threat to the U.S. and to terminate the policy of criminally prosecuting asylum seekers.The law firm chairs have pledged on behalf of their respective firms, which collectively employ approximately 30,000 lawyers across the U.S., to merge resources and join the legal services community in reuniting families and ensuring representation for legitimate asylum seekers.
