Morrison & Foerster’s Robert S. Litt explained the potential impact that Rod Rosenstein’s dismissal would have on the Mueller investigation in the Law360 article “How The Mueller Investigation Could Look Without Rosenstein.”

“Rosenstein has made it an important part of his perception of his job to protect Mueller from political interference,” he said. “The question will be whether the person who succeeds him — if he is in fact fired or resigns — whether that person is both equivalently dedicated to protecting Mueller and has the political strength to do so.”
