Morrison & Foerster’s Serena Tan was named among Asian Legal Business’ top “40 Under 40” in their October edition of “The Next Generation of Asia’s Lawyers.” The annual list offers a glimpse into what’s ahead for Asia’s legal industry and recognizes the younger lawyers who are poised to drive significant changes. The competition for making this year’s list was fierce as ALB received over 300 entries.
Kuang (Serena) Tan, a partner in Morrison & Foerster’s Hong Kong office, has extensive experience in forming and investing in private investment funds (including offshore funds, RMB funds, and dual-currency funds). She has been front and center in representing some of the most prominent sponsors and institutional global investors in Asia, recently representing a China-focused private equity firm in its formation of a buyout fund in excess of US$2 billion.
Ms. Tan has also advised international sponsors in matters involving the formation of a variety of private investment funds, including buyout funds, growth funds, venture capital funds, real estate funds, fund-of-funds, separate accounts, and co-investment funds. Additionally, she frequently represents a number of China-based insurance companies, banks, and asset management firms.
Clients have praised Ms. Tan as “an ideal partner” for her in-depth understanding of fund formation, her ability to recognize the differences in offshore versus RMB funds and international investors versus local investors, and her uncanny ability to “design optimal structures, bridge the gaps, and find solutions.”
